FALL RIVER… Joseph E. Dumont, 77, of Swansea passed away April 24, 2014 at St. Anne’s Hospital. He was the husband of 44 years to Doreen (Salisbury) Dumont. Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Elie and Marianne (Bruneau) Dumont, and had lived in Swansea since 1970. He was a 1956 graduate of the former Msgr. Prevost High School. He was a treasurer with the Leather Workers Union and a shop steward. Mr. Dumont enjoyed learning, loved politics and history, and was an usher at St. Michael’s Church for many years. Survivors include his wife, a Son: Joseph E. Dumont of Lake Oswego, OR, a Daughter: Dr. Georgette E. Dumont of Jacksonville Beach, FL, a Brother: Wilfrid Dumont of Fall River, a Sister: Marie Claire Fusco of Spring Hill, FL, 2 Grandchildren: Olivia Rose Dumont & Jack Dumont, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral mass to which relatives and friends are invited to will be held Saturday at 9:00AM at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, I530 Gardner’s Neck Road, Swansea. Burial will be private. Vieira and the daughter of the late Manuel Vieira & Maria A Carreiro. Prior to retiring, Maria worked as a Bakery Manager for Seabra Supermarket. She was a parishioner of St. John of God Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children: Stacy & Jason Vieira both of Swansea; granddaughter: Alyssa Marques; siblings: Antonio & Altino Frizado, Maria (Angie) Carvalho, Eduarda Soares all of Fall River, Auxiliadora Vieira of Swansea, Lenore Silva of Rehoboth, and Maria Barroso of Fall River; many nieces & nephews. Frank Paiva, 82 of Swansea, passed away Oct. 19, 2014. He was the husband of the late Elaine (Parent) Paiva and the son of the late Joseph and Maria (Farias) Paiva. Prior to retiring, Frank worked as a Grocery Receiver for the former Almacs Supermarket. He was a US Army Veteran and a member of the Teamsters Union. He was survived by his daughter: Donna Waite, and her husband Wesluy and his son: Christopher Paiva all of Swansea; 2 sisters: Jean Mullensky of Somerset and Marina Orosz of Swansea; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and many nieces & nephews. She was the wife of the late Frank Cabral of Swansea and daughter of the late Manuel and Mary Lima; mother of Frank Cabral Jr. and his wife Carol of Raynham, Kathleen Talbot and her husband William of Swansea, Eileen Cabral of Swansea and the late Theresa Bielawski; grandmother of Jacqueline Hire of Amesbury, John Talbot of Carver, Greg Cabral of Raynham, Kristen Cherwinski of Warwick, Rick Bielawski of Swansea, and the late Jeffrey Cabral; the great grandmother of John and Steven Talbot, Olivia Hire, Ava, Christen, Isabel, and Emily Bielawski, and Gabriella, Landon, and Juliana Cherwinski; and the aunt of several nieces and nephews. Delia was the sister of Irene Dee of Swansea, and the late John, Manuel, Leo, and George Lima. Mrs. Cabral was a resident of Swansea for more than sixty years. Delia worked as a bookkeeper for many years before her retirement. Delia enjoyed traveling around the United States and visiting many countries around the world. She also loved going out to eat and playing slot machines at casinos. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. Lucy Rodrigues of Swansea passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 4 following a long illness. She was 81 years old. Born in Fall River, MA, Lucy was the daughter of the late Andre P. Furtado and Antonia Chaves. After a short courtship, she married John B. Rodrigues, sharing 57 years of marriage with him until his death in 2010. She is predeceased by her brothers Manuel, Louis, and George Furtado. In her younger years, Lucy worked for several employers, including RCA. With the arrival of her first child, she became a homemaker. During her life’s journey, Lucy developed a deep relationship with God and Jesus, with a devout faith. This faith-filled woman was the center of her family, abounding with generosity, self-sacrifice, and prayer. She gently touched the hearts of many people over the years, sharing prayers, counsel, and acts of charity. As a member of St. John of God Parish, Somerset, she taught religious education and was involved in many other faith formation activities. Lucy loved the outdoors and nature and the birds; she was especially fond of the beach. A person of deep empathy and kindness, Lucy gave of herself to her family and to many others, which will forever be her legacy. In order to honor her legacy, may we live our lives with the same strength of character and celebrate her simple beauty and compassionate soul. Lucy is survived by her daughter, Dori Collins of Swansea; son, Kevin Rodrigues and his wife Terri Dominguez of Connecticut; son, Doug Rodrigues of Swansea; granddaughter, Kristen Beland and her husband Christopher; granddaughter, Alexandra Rodrigues Dominguez; great grandson, Kai Beland; and several nieces and nephews. Leaving those who love him considerably poorer for his absence, Michael John Leonardo of Swansea, MA departed this life on December 10, 2014, after a valiant battle with cancer. Born in Fall River, MA in 1950, he was the son of the late John and Alice (Torres) Leonardo. A graduate of Durfee High School and the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, his career in the binder industry spanned three decades, first at Elbe File in Fall River and then as a founding partner of Advanced Looseleaf Technologies in Dighton, MA. His passion for his work was valued by his colleagues and business associates, who helped celebrate his recent retirement. A communicant of St. Louis de France parish in Swansea, he relished his role in parish life, as Eucharistic Minister and as an active member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He particularly enjoyed his work with them at this time of year, helping to bring assistance and happiness to families in need. An avid golfer and fisherman, he was a member of the Montaup and Knights of Columbus leagues. He is survived by his son Anthony, Anthony’s wife Catherine, and grandson Alexander. Also, his sister Janice Choiniere, brother in law, Ronald Choiniere, and nephews, Justin Choiniere and Jonathan Ferreira. In addition, his stepdaughter Jennifer Perry, her husband Keith, and step-grandchildren Courtney and Kevin, as well as his former wife and caregiver, Denise Leonardo. His godfather, Gerald Silvia and wife Lillian, numerous cousins and an extended circle of friends also mourn his loss. Michael’s effect on the people in his life will be long lasting. His kindness and ability to see and address the needs of others endeared him to many who will not soon forget his impact on their lives. Clifford E Read, age 81 of Swansea, passed away on December 22, 2014. He was the beloved husband of Eleanor (Rose) Read and the late Laura (Leeman) Read. He was the son of the late Joseph and Emily Read. Before retiring he was employed as a heavy equipment operator for Capaldi Bros, in Swansea and a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 4. Besides his wife, he is survived by his son Clifford E Read Jr. (Janice) of Westport, and his daughter Laura L Read of Somerset. He was also the father of the late Scott E Read (Sandy). He leaves four grandsons, CJ, Jason, Shane, and Joseph Read, a great granddaughter Calista Read, He leaves step-children, John Rose (Denise), Deborah Moran (James), Nancy McKenna (Patrick) all of Swansea. Donna Plante (Russell), of No Kingstown, Trisha Rose (Julie) of Washington, and Kimberley Lopes (Jeff) of North Carolina. Step-grandchildren, Jason, Caylen, Tara, Mitchell, Alec and two of which affectionately (called him “Bips”) Emma and Nathan Lopes, and step great grandchildren Jared, Aidan, Trinity, Laila, Gunnar and Brayden. He was also the brother of Judy Souza (Art) of Dartmouth, Gerald Read of Swansea, Joseph Read of Fall River. Predeceased by his brother William Read and his sister Beverly Foran. He leaves several nieces and nephews. His family wishes to thank Dr. Yang and the staff at Hudner Oncology for the compassionate care that he was given. Dolores C. (Rodrigues) Minkin, age 83, of Swansea, passed away on March 20, 2015. She was the daughter of the late Manuel and Mary (Bernardo) Rodrigues, and the former wife of the late Lawrence M. Minkin. Prior to retiring, Dolores worked as a Waitress at Magoni’s Restaurant and at the former Coachman Restaurant for over 25 years. She was an avid golfer and a member of Touisset Country Club, Swansea. She is survived by her children: Gail DeSouto of Somerset, Guy Minkin of Swansea, Alan Minkin of Tiverton, and Jay Minkin of California; 5 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Arnold & Frank Rodrigues, and Hilda Vierra. John Carvalho, age 70, of Swansea, brother-in-law to the late Barbara Ann Machado, also passed away surrounded by his loving family at St. Anne’s Hospital on April 19, 2015. Born in Fall River, he was the loving husband of Madeline (Machado) Carvalho and son of the late John and Mary (Rocha) Carvalho. John’s favorite thing to do was cooking. He also loved going to Foxwoods, vacationing and going to the mall. He loved music, particularly from the 50’s and was a great dancer. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and dear friends, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, John also leaves behind his children Lisa Thomas (spouse Joanne) of Swansea and Mark Carvalho (partner Shelly) of Somerset and 3 grandchildren Ryan, Seth and Mark. He was predeceased by his sister Patricia Allen. His funeral, in conjunction with Barbara Ann Machado’s funeral, will be a Mass of Christian Burial that will take place on FRIDAY. Ted A. Gavriluk, 76, of Swansea, passed away on Friday, April 24, 2015 at Catholic Memorial Home. He was the husband of Irene L. (Gardella) Gavriluk. Born in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late Edward and Eve (Lazowski) Gavriluk, he resided in Westport for many years prior to moving to Swansea. He served in the United States Army with the Military Police. Prior to his retirement, he was the owner/operator of Bay State Trading Co. in Fall River. Mr. Gavriluk was an avid actor and had worked with both the Granite Theatre in Westerly, RI and Theatre by the Sea in Matunuck, RI. He enjoyed the beach, golf and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors along with his wife include his daughter: Danielle S. Gavriluk of S. Dartmouth; his son: Thomas E. Gavriluk and wife Heather of Westport; a brother: John Gavriluk of FL; 5 grandchildren: Benjamin and Bradley Fitzgerald, Riley, Hannah and James Gavriluk; 8 Great Grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was father of the late Dina T. Fitzgerald and brother of the late Glory Leidner. He was the beloved companion of Barbara Silvia of Fall River and husband of the late Doris (Arruda) Williams. Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late James and Bertha (Dommes) Williams. He grew up in Westport and moved to Swansea in 1969. Mr. Williams served in the United States Army and worked as a driver for New England Manheim in Dighton. He enjoyed going on trips to the casino, spending time with his “Honey Bee” and outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing. Along with his companion, survivors include several cousins. Stephen was a U.S Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam War Era, a maintenance mechanic for Swan Print and Dye for 40 years, a member of the Fall River Rod and Gun Club, and 1 year president of the Battleship Cove CB Club with the handle Golden Eagle. He also enjoyed hunting, camping, bowling, and building and working on race cars. In addition to his wife he is survived by his children Noel Higgins (wife Michelle) and Jennifer Higgins.
