Leonard W. Pavao, age 72 passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on April 13, 2013. He was the husband of Jacqueline (Pereira) Pavao and son of the late Manuel & Alice (Aguiar) Pavao. He resided in Swansea for most of his life and had worked for the Swansea Police Dept. as a firearms instructor. He also was a carpenter, an engineer, a surveyor and a trucker. He had been a member of St. Michael Church in Swansea. Leonard was the father of Bobby Pavao of Swansea and Barbara Erickson (husband Erik J.) both of Swansea; brother of Veronica Megans. SWANSEA — Beverly (Therrien) Thomson, age 91 years, died on June 2nd at Country Gardens Nursing Home in Swansea, Ma., where she resided for the last seven years.
She was a lifelong resident of New Bedford and was a teacher in the New Bedford School Department for over 22 years, before retiring in 1984.
She was a graduate of N.B. High School, SMU, and Bridgewater State College where she earned her BS in Education Degree in 1968.
Beverly was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Mass. and Bristol County Teacher’s Associations, a volunteer and member of St. Luke’s Hospital Auxiliary, was active with the Investment Club of the YWCA and the Board of Directors of the Zeiterion Theater.
She enjoyed attending plays, musicals and opera, especially weekend trips to the Met in New York. She also enjoyed traveling and Saturday night Poker games.
Predeceased by her husband Alexander Thomson, her mother and father Bessie Bucklin Therrien and Walter J. Therrien, and her brother Leonard Therrien.
She is survived by her son Keith Thomson and his wife Carole Stevens of Taunton. She was the loving aunt of several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place in the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford on Wednesday morning from 10-11 A.M. with a service at 11 A.M., followed by burial in Rural Cemetery.
Remembrances may be made in her name to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 884 Kempton St., N.B. 02740.

SWANSEA, MA – Albert Peter Welker Jr., age 74 of Swansea, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2013 at Catholic Memorial Home. He was the beloved husband of Barbara A. (McMullen) Welker and the son of the late Albert P. and Margaret (Paul) Welker. Prior to retiring, Pete worked for Raytheon in the Publication and Marketing Division. During his retirement, he worked as a Funeral Assistant for Sullivan Funeral Home and Livery Specialist / Fall River Limousine. He was a U.S. Army veteran during the Vietnam War and was activated during the Cuban Missile Crisis, enjoyed archery, fly fishing, skeet and trap shooting. He was a lifetime member of the Fall River Rod and Gun Club and an avid New York Giants fan. He was best known as “Poppy” to his grandchildren, who he greatly adored, “Pete” or “Uncle Pete” by his family and friends.
In addition to his wife of Swansea, he is survived by his children: Kristen E. Raposa (husband William) of Somerset, Hayley A. Welker of Swansea, and Glen P. Welker (wife Susan) of Somerset; 3 grandchildren: Kaitlyn E. Raposa, Aliyah J. & Caleb P. Welker; brother in laws, sister in laws, and several nieces & nephews.

Ernest J. Viveiros, age 85, of Swansea, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2013, after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was the loving husband of Shirley E. (Grantmeyer) Viveiros for 58 years and son of the late Joseph and Mary (Rebello) Viveiros. He leaves behind his daughter Nancy A. Viveiros and sons Jeffrey J., Scott J. and Ernest J. Viveiros, Jr.; and his sister Hilda Franco, several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers James, Joseph, Peter, Henry and sisters Virginia Soares, Margaret Robinson, Mary Costa, Cecelia Rapoza, Hortense Medeiros, Eva Oliveira and Lucy Cole.
Prior to retirement, Ernest was a member of the I.B.E.W. for over fifty years. Many years he served as the International Representative of the I.B.E.W., Second District, diligently defending the rights of workers for better working conditions and better lives. He served on the Advisory Board and was a Trustee at Bristol Community College for several years and was the recipient of the Distinguished Citizen of the Year award in 1991. He was a veteran of the US Navy, WWII, and a veteran of the US Army, Korean Conflict. He enjoyed hunting, golfing and landscaping.

Beatrice (Franco) Pereira, of Swansea passed away Sep. 14, 2013. She was the beloved wife for 55 years to John Pereira and the daughter of the late Manuel C. and Maria A. (Teixeira) Franco. Prior to retiring, Beatrice worked in the family business at Pacific Bakery, and then worked as a Sewing Machine Operator for Fall River Manufacturing Co. She retired to help raise her 2 grandchildren whom she cherished. Her favorite past time was Ballroom Dancing with her husband and friends.
In addition to her husband John of Swansea, Bea is survived by her daughter: Cynthia Gauvin wife of Raymond Gary Gauvin III of Swansea, her two grandchildren: Matthew Gauvin of Fall River and Elyse Gauvin of Swansea, and several nieces & nephews. She was the sister of the late Manuel, John, and James Franco.

Mrs. DaSilva was a member of the Abundant Life Assembly of God Church, New Meadow Road, Swansea.
Survivors include her husband and parents, her paternal grandmother Jeannette Parent of Somerset, her maternal grandmother Stasia Hadala of Fall River, 3 daughters: Katlyn Almeida of Somerset, Jessica Goncalo of Fall River, Lindsey DaSilva of Swansea, 2 sisters: Debra Parent of Somerset, Dr. Jennifer Parent-Winer, M.D. of Franklin, MA, 3 grandchildren, several nephews.
